Story by:  Itemlive.com October 27, 2016 Volunteers spent last week installing new playground equipment at Oak Island Park. By THOMAS GRILLO REVERE — The city has a sparkle thanks to a volunteer effort to spruce up neighborhood parks, the business district and even a cemetery. The projects, “Beautify Revere” and “Community Build,” brought more than 300 residents together for a single purpose: making the city a better place for everyone. Last weekend, this year’s final clean-up was completed at the Rumney Marsh Burial Ground, the National Register of Historic Places resting place of 545 of Revere’s earliest settlers on Butler Street. Two miles away, Kerri Courtois and her team installed a new playground set at Oak Island Park, one block from Revere Beach. She helped replace the swing set and jungle gym whose useful life had passed. “I don’t want to say the equipment we replaced was dilapidated, but it …

Add a Fire Pit this Fall!

get-fired-up-about-fire-pits-kraken

“Fire is one of our best friends in this cold universe. Put some wood in it to show your gratitude” ~ Mehmet Murat ildan There’s something magical about an outdoor fire. Not unlike your home’s kitchen during a holiday party, crowds gather and unite around this bustling center of activity. S’mores, drinks, stories and laughter…all hallmarks of a well-planned evening! While building a fire really can be as easy as gathering some kindling and a lighter, the presentation and actual setting can make a major impact on the evenings ambiance and to what extent your guests are comfortable. New Englanders are no stranger to cool fall and spring evenings, so if outdoor fires are a regular part of your family’s routine and you want to move beyond that char-filled hole in the ground, it’s time for some inspiration. Whether you want a fire pit that serves as a focal point in …

2016 Sand Sculpting Comes to a Close

Singles First Place & Sculptors Choice

REVERE — America’s oldest public beach got a little sandier this week. Onlookers, wannabes, and pros converged on Revere Beach Friday to watch, learn, and compete in the 13th annual International Sand Sculpting Festival. But before the crowds arrived, the competition needed sand. And in the world of Northeast sand sculpting competitions, there’s no better stuff than the decomposed granite dust that’s trucked in from a quarry in Hudson, N.H. Organizers ordered nearly 500 tons of the sand, which is silty, sparkly, and soft to the touch. Unlike Revere Beach’s sand, the New Hampshire quarry’s is not rolled and rounded by the waves. By Kristin Toussaint July 2, 2015- Boston.com When Annette Kellerman stepped out onto Revere Beach in 1907 wearing a one-piece bathing suit that ended in shorts above her knees, her legs caused a scandal.
