waterfront square

June 4, 2016 By Journal Staff –Revere Journal Guests at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the beautiful, new Vanguard Waterfront Square Apartments at 660 Ocean Ave. knew that they were a part of a special event ushering in an era of luxury living along the shores of Revere Beach. The unobstructed views of the ocean from the Vanguard are simply breathtaking. The state-of-the-art exercise facility, the clubroom, the barbecue area, and cabanas are superb amenities. We particularly liked the modern laminate wood flooring in the kitchen, dining, and living rooms and the spacious walk-in closets. In other words, there is much to admire about the Vanguard Apartments and it is not a surprise that they are filling up quickly with young professionals and couples moving to Revere to take advantage of this exciting residential opportunity. One resident told us how convenient the location is with its five-minute walk to the Wonderland …

Memorial Day 2016: What’s the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day? History, more

2014-sandsculpt4

http://connect.al.com/staff/LeadaGore/posts.html This story was written by: Leada Gore Memorial Day is May 30, 2016. It’s a day set aside to honor the military personnel who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country. The day is sometimes confused with Veterans Day, though the two events have distinctly different purposes. Memorial Day is for remembering those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle, according to the Veterans Administration. Veterans Day, held in November, is set aside to thank and honor all those who served in the military – in wartime and peace. The day does honor veterans who have died but is largely intended to thank living veterans for their service. This underscores the “fact that all of those who served- not only those who died – have sacrificed and done their duty,” the VA said. History of Memorial Day Now observed on the …

Wonderland Dog Park to be Demolished May 13, 2016 By Revere Journal Staff By Sue Ellen Woodcock The Conservation Commission held a public hearing and has issued an order of conditions to the owners of the former Wonderland Dog Park to allow the demolition process to begin at the site. Last Wednesday night attorney Stephen Reardon, who represents CBW Lending and Sterling Suffolk Racecourse, appeared before the commission. Reardon said the dog racing track facility has been vacant since state legislation on Aug. 19, 2010 resulted in a statewide ban on dog racing. Reardon said most are eager to see the facility taken down since it is unsightly, empty with no apparent use, and the development of the parcel is expected to go forward. Taking the facility down requires the approval of several city departments including, building, engineering, health, public works and fire. The application states that the owners …

Garfield Middle School Lands Large Grant for School Re-Design

DSC_0150

April 1, 2016 By Journal Staff-Seth Daniel The Garfield Middle School has been chosen as one of two schools statewide to participate in a $450,000 grant program by the Center for Collaborative Education – a grant that will try to bring the middle school in line with the high school’s Student Centered Learning model. “It will be an effort to expand what’s happening at the high school already,” said Supt.
