City of Revere Economic Development Summit Friday November 21st

Economic Development Summit to be held at Showcase Cinema On Friday, November 21st, the City of Revere’s Economic Development Summit. An overview of Revere’s ongoing economic development strategy, recent progress, and opportunities yet to come will be presented by a panel of State, Local, and Federal officials, along with prominent business leaders, developers, and investors set to discuss Revere’s long term economic growth strategy. Metro North Plan Could Compliment Revere’s Development

Full Story appears at Revere Journal   Mayor Dan Rizzo and Economic Development Director John Festa have scheduled the city’s second economic summit for Nov. 21 and one of the issues surely that will be discussed is state Housing and Economic Development Secretary’s Greg Bialecki’s land use plan for the newly named “Metro North” region that includes Revere and eight other communities, Chelsea, Everett, Charlestown, Winthrop, East Boston, Malden, Melrose, and Somerville. To Mayor Rizzo’s credit, he has always been receptive to collaborative and regional approaches to issues affecting Revere. He was an engaged participant in Bialecki’s conference that was held at the Wyndham Hotel in Chelsea and he is certainly weighing the plan’s potential impact on Revere’s ongoing and future plans for development.

Suffolk Downs marks its final day of live races

By PHIL MARCELO  Boston.com / Associated Press   BOSTON (AP) — Suffolk Downs, New England’s last thoroughbred horse track, celebrated its storied past with a series of tributes Saturday on its final day of live races. The once-grand Boston track recognized some of the most famous horses, jockeys, announcers and performers during its nearly 80-year history with live and video presentations. Among those highlighted were ‘‘Eddie Wrack,’’ the horse that won the track’s inaugural race in 1935, and ‘‘Seabiscuit,’’ the legendary Depression-era thoroughbred that won a major race held there in 1937. The track, which will continue to offer simulcast betting until December, also cleared out its promotional inventory, selling vintage souvenirs and other memorabilia. Sale proceeds will benefit CANTER New England and the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, which help horses transition to life after racing. SUFFOLK DOWNS TO HOST FINAL DAY ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4

Revere Tornado Relief Fund established

Revere Mayor Dan Rizzo and a host of other federal and local officials will be on hand Friday to formally launch the Revere Tornado Relief Fund. http://www.reveretornadorelief.org The fund, created on GoFundMe.com, has a goal of raising $1 million. According to a statement by Rizzo, regular homeowner’s insurance plans may not cover much of the damage caused by the tornado. “Total estimated damage is in the millions of dollars. With the extreme rarity of the tornado in Revere, a vast majority of these costs will likely not be covered by private insurance,” he said. “We have set up this fund so that these residents and business owners are not alone in shouldering the burden of rebuilding their lives and our community.” There are several ways you can donate to the fund. 2014 Revere Beach National Sand Sculpting Festival a Huge Success

The 2014 Revere Beach National Sand Sculpting Festival came to a close Saturday evening concluding with a spectacular fireworks display. Hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over New England and beyond came to see the an amazing array of sand sculptings created by the worlds greatest artisans. Once again the Revere Beach Partnership has conducted an incredible event that was enjoyed by throngs of visitors to Revere Beach. This years event was by far the biggest and the best! It seemed as though the there was a never ending line of amazing sand sculptings. The centerpiece featuring the five seals of our US Armed Forces was a fitting tribute to all those who have served.
