Revere Beach Goes Hollywood

No, that’s not a picture of Miami Beach. It’s our own Revere Beach after a Hollywood makeover. Some lucky locals got a chance to see Johnny Depp and Sienna Miller during the filming of the new Whitey Bulger biopic, Black Mass. Whoever has the job of scouting out locations for the film hit the bulls eye by selecting Revere Beach. The story made it to the pages of the Boston Herald. You can read it here.

Metropolitan Beaches Commission Releases Findings for Lynn, Nahant, Revere, & Winthrop

Waves of Change REVERE – The Metropolitan Beaches Commission (MBC) released its’ report Waves of Change on the Boston Harbor region’s 15 public beaches including Revere, Nahant, Lynn, Revere, and Winthrop, owned by the Commonwealth and managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation. The Commission held ten hearings at the State House and in each of the region’s waterfront neighborhoods and beachfront communities to examine the progress made on these beaches since it released its first report in 2007. “The investments we have made on these beaches strengthen our communities and the economy, improve people’s lives and demonstrate that government can work,” said Senator Tom McGee of Lynn, who Co-Chairs the Commission. The report identifies a number of continuing challenges and opportunities that need to be addressed to move these beaches from good to great. These include staffing levels at the beaches, which increased after 2007, but declined in …

The Revere Beach Kite Festival was held today across from Kelly’s Roast Beef! Under beautiful blue skies hundreds of young and old alike enjoyed an incredibly beautiful day to fly a kite. Mayor Rizzo Announces Fourth Annual Revere Shines Citywide Clean-Up and National Take Back Day

Story by : Revere News  Hundreds of Revere residents will participate in the yearly community clean-up For the past three years, the City of Revere has hosted Revere Shines, a citywide clean-up effort that occurs on the last Saturday of April. This year Revere Shines will take place on Saturday, April 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Residents and local business partners are being asked to meet at 8:45 a.m. at the American Legion Building at 249 Broadway, from where they will then be dispersed into the community o begin their clean-up efforts. After a few hours, all are invited back to the American Legion Building  at noon for a BBQ and music to celebrate their hard work. Last year “Revere Shines” drew over 500 residents, businesses, community groups, and other organizations that participated in the clean-up. Together these volunteers were able to effectively clean and remove trash and debris from over 60 locations across Revere. …

Gaming commission pushes back timeline for casino licenses

The state Gaming Commission met April 3 and took actions that will likely delay casino license awards in Greater Boston and southeastern Massachusetts to at least August 2014 and February 2015, respectively The commission decided April 3 to delay the second-phase application deadline for commercial casino proposals in southeastern Massachusetts to at least Sept. 23. Chairman Stephen Crosby said commissioners will likely set the exact deadline at its next meeting, when it will also likely decide whether to waive the $500 million minimum investment requirement in an effort to encourage more applications. Vincent pledges to be strong voice for 16th Suffolk following special election

Revere, Winthrop, East Boston and Lynn Join Forces in Splash

Editorial Story by Revere Advocate For the first time, the residents near Revere Beach, Winthrop Beach, Constitution Beach, and Lynn/Nahant Beach will join forces on March 29 in an effort to raise funds for Save the Harbor/Save the Bay. This is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to continue the improvement of Boston Harbor and all of the metropolitan beaches. This organization has been instrumental in the improved water quality of the beaches and the harbor islands, as well as the improved maintenance of the beaches. For the past four years, Save the Harbor/Save the Bay has been hosting a “Cupid Splash” to raise funds for the purpose of helping to fund activities on the beaches. All money raised in each city is used for activities on that city’s beach. The Revere Beach Partnership is looking for “splashers” to brave the cold waters of Revere Beach on March 29. Revere votes Yes for Mohegan Sun Casino at Suffolk Downs

For the second time in four months, Revere voters have said yes to a casino at Suffolk Downs, approving a $1.3 billion Mohegan Sun proposal at a referendum today, according to city officials.  By Mark Arsenault / Boston Globe staff     Boston.com  REVERE — Mohegan Sun’s proposal to build a $1.3 billion gambling resort at Suffolk Downs won the strong endorsement of Revere voters Tuesday, reviving the racetrack’s casino aspirations and ensuring there will be a competition for the state’s most lucrative gambling license. About 63 percent of city voters supported the plan to develop a casino on about 42 acres in Revere belonging to the track, a greater percentage than supported an earlier Suffolk Downs casino plan in November, according to city figures. “We’re gamblers,” said Carol Trapani, 68, who visits Twin River casino in Rhode Island, with her husband, Gino, a few times a year.
