High water marks- Beaches in Lynn, Nahant, Revere, Swampscott show improvement

The results were the best in four years, according to a report by local advocacy group Save the Harbor/Save the Bay. But while pleased, the report’s authors noted that dry weather contributed to the positive results — a signal that potentially expensive and time-consuming stormwater and/or sewer fixes are needed to maintain the progress, particularly at King’s Beach. “It was a good year overall, and it was a good year for King’s; but that’s because it was a dry year,” Bruce Berman, spokesman for Save the Harbor/Save the Bay said Tuesday. “When you look at Tenean (Beach, in Dorchester) or …

Revere Citywide Free Fitness Challenge May 11th & 5K Race set for June 13th

News Release by City of Revere Revere – The City of Revere and Mayor Daniel Rizzo are pleased to announce that the “Revere Citywide Free Fitness Challenge” is slated to kick-off on May 11, 2015 and will run for five weeks ending on June 10, 2015. The 5K Race which signifies the end of the challenge is being held on June 13, 2015. The annual Fitness Challenge is designed to highlight the benefits of healthy eating and fitness. It also demonstrates how important health and exercise is, while showing residents that it can also be fun and exciting. All classes for the Fitness Challenge will be offered during the week at either the Susan B. Anthony School gymnasium, or at a various participating business. Shop Small “Small Business Saturday” November 29th

Shop Small on Saturday Mayor Rizzo is once again partnering with the Revere Chamber of Commerce to promote “Small Business Saturday” on November 29. Small Business Saturday was founded in 2010 by American Express to help local businesses gain more customers and now, that program has turned into a powerful movement that drives shoppers to local merchants across the country. Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar small businesses. The day will start with a Community Kickoff Coffee Hour at Kinship Floral, LLC between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Businesses and consumers will be invited to meet neighborhood business owners and preview their special offers at the Chamber’s pop-up market. “Small Business Passports” will also be available to consumers at all participating businesses.
