Yesterday

Yesterday is a glimpse into Revere Beach’s history.

The Pleasanton Hotel, shown here under construction in early 1897; it would open that summer in July. Owned by Charles Kirby, it was originally built approximately where the Arcade Bazaar would later be located.

In the fall of 1924, the Pleasanton was moved to just past the corner of West Street and the Boulevard; this was due to a ban on automobiles on the Boulevard on Sundays and holidays during the summer months – the new location would give easier access to the hotel.

It would survive a fire in 1940; it was gutted by a three alarm blaze in March of 1970, in its 73rd year of service.
