Top ways to beat the heat

New England is full of surprises. Memorial Day weekend was cold and wet, but now as we say goodbye to June, we’ve had four consecutive days of high heat. While most of the area will have temperatures top 90, the beach is forecasted to top out in the high 80’s.

The best way to beat the heat is to enjoy a day at the beach. But, if you cannot, we have compiled the top five ways to stay cool.

One

Drink plenty of water. Drink little to no beverages with caffeine or alcohol, as they will dehydrate you.

Two

During mealtime, eat smaller meals. Larger meals dehydrate your body as you digest them. It is also best to reduce your salt intake.

Three

Opening the windows will make your home warmer, not cooler. Open your windows at night to capture the cooler air. When you wake up, close your windows. This will allow cool night air to circulate, and the sun’s heat from reaching indoors.

Four

Place houseplants around your windows. These plants will absorb the sun as it shines through. Make sure your plant calls for excessive sun or else it will dry out.

Five

During the peak hours of the heat 10am – 3pm, reduce the amount of lighting fixtures you use around the house. Light bulbs can increate the temperature of the room.

Have fun this summer at Revere Beach.
