{"id":8966,"date":"2021-01-13T14:36:00","date_gmt":"2021-01-13T19:36:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reverebeach.com\/?p=8966"},"modified":"2021-01-13T14:36:00","modified_gmt":"2021-01-13T19:36:00","slug":"banana-boat-ice-cream-will-not-reopen-thank-you-for-43-years-of-history-at-revere-beach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reverebeach.com\/recent-news\/banana-boat-ice-cream-will-not-reopen-thank-you-for-43-years-of-history-at-revere-beach\/","title":{"rendered":"Banana Boat Ice Cream will not reopen&#8230;.Thank You for 43 Years of history at Revere Beach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/reverejournal.com\/2021\/01\/13\/banana-boat-ice-cream-not-to-reopen\/\">Story by  John Lynds Revere Journal   1-13-2021<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Banana Boat will not reopen after 43 memorable years at Revere Beach<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Revere residents woke to the shocking news Tuesday morning that the legendary Banana Boat Ice Cream on Revere Beach, known for its soft serve ice cream cones and banana split sundaes over the past four decades, will close for good.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is with a heavy heart that we have made the tough decision to close Banana Boat Ice Cream,\u201d said owners Amora and Avri Schena in a statement Tuesday. \u201cWords will never be enough to express our gratitude to our family, hard-working employees, dedicated customers, suppliers, and each person who has supported us over the years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>American Flags hanging atop the building represent family members who have served in our nations military<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to Amora and Avri, the Banana Boat property was founded in 1977 by Tony and Ann Schena along with Bobby and Maureen Fanara as an investment property when the two couples heard a casino was coming to Revere Beach.<\/p>\n<p>When that didn\u2019t pan out Ann and Tony decided to hang on to the property and open up an ice cream shop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBanana Boat, as you know it, was established that summer,\u201d said the Schenas. \u201cAnn Schena thoughtfully painted the store blue and white to represent the ocean and Tony Schena built it like a fortress which has proven resilient through major storms like the Blizzard of \u201878 and other unforeseen challenges like COVID-19. The flags that hang atop the building and off the back of the Banana Boat represent the generations of family who have served.
